We've taken the hassle out of sourcing all the right hardware, notions and materials and put together a kit containing everything you'll need to sew yourself a funky orange velvet Traverse crossbody bag with lots of pockets and an adjustable strap.
The velvet is a short pile synthetic furnishing type fabric.
We chose two colourways of Ruby Star Society's 'Ornament' cotton for the accent and the lining, and the bag is finished off with gold hardware and turquoise YKK zips.
The materials provided are for the smaller version of the pattern, which will give you a bag that is 10" x 7.5".
If you don't already have the pattern, you can choose to add it when you check out.
Noodlehead patterns have excellent instructions so don't worry too much if you are new to bag making. The pattern doesn't come with pattern pieces for square or rectangular pieces, it just gives you the measurements you'll need to cut them out.
We'd suggest you need to be an intermediate sewist to make this bag - the velvet has a short pile but it still a bit tricky and bulky to sew (a walking foot will really help, and make sure your machine can handle some bulk), and you will need to be comfortable with zips and piping.
The kit contains:
Optional: Noodlehead Traverse Bag paper sewing pattern.
All you'll need is a sewing machine, cutting mat, rotary cutter, gridded ruler, some sort of marking tool (we like simple tailor's chalk.) The pattern also recommends you use a glue pen, 1/4" wide fusible bias tape and a piping foot, but we managed without these (though the piping would have been tidier with a piping foot!)
We have packaged this simply in brown paper. The snaps and sewing pattern have been left in their retail packaging.

- Orange velvet. As these were left over pieces, the piece you receive may be an odd shape, but we have made sure there is enough for your project
- Two 1/2 yd pieces of Ruby Star Society 'Ornament', one in Buttercream and one in Peacock
- A set of Prym snaps in gold, this comes with the tool too, though you'll also need a hammer
- Two YKK bag zips in turquoise, one 12" and one 8". The 8" one will need to be shortened to 6"
- Two 3/4" gold metal rectangle rings and one 3/4" gold metal strap slider
- One yd of piping cord
- One yd of fusible interfacing
- One reel of matching Gütermann recycled sew-all thread
