Beginners: Six Week Sewing Course 'Sew a Raglan Sleeved Top/Dress' Mondays 10am-12pm Starting 13th January 2025 DISCOUNTED

This is a discounted place due to a last-minute cancellation. If you would like to join the class, you'll have missed the first lesson and be able to join for a discounted rate starting on Monday 13th January and running for five weeks 10am-12pm.

This is aimed at beginning sewists who would like to learn how to make garments. This is a follow-on course from the Complete Beginner course (you don't have to have done that course) and is best suited to people who have a small amount of experience with using a sewing machine.

In this course we will make a simple, loose fitting woven top or dress with raglan sleeves, choosing from the Sew House Seven ‘Remy Raglan’ top or the Style Arc ‘Hope Dress’. These both go up to a UK size 34/38.

An alternative is available if you want to make a mens' garment instead.

The pattern of your choice will be included in the price of the course, but you’ll need to pick up the pattern at the shop, buy the fabric and pre-wash it before the first lesson. Choose a fabric that’s fairly easy to sew, such as woven cotton or lightweight linen. You'll also need to buy any thread and notions you'll need to make your garment.

Our opening hours are 10am-4pm Tues, Thurs, Fri and Sat.

Each week you will have a two-hour lesson in our Making Space, with full use of our Janome sewing machines and overlockers. Tea and coffee is available and there is a changing room to try on your makes.

Basic sewing supplies are available to use, but we do advise to bring your own kit if you have one so you don't have to wait to use the communal ones and you will need to bring your own pins to use.

The workshop is fairly accessible, but if you have any special requirements as far as access or seating goes please do get in touch and we'll see what we can do.

We only run these workshops if enough places are filled. If you change your mind or circumstances mean that you can no longer take part, please let us know as soon as possible. You can cancel your booking up to two weeks before the class is due to start, after that we will only refund you if we are able to fill your place.
